Buzzards. Like the early birds at a yardsale, they circle and circle and land to pick the bones of a carcass clean. It sounds rather horrible. But, what would we do without them? They’re the sanitation department of mother nature. They’re doing the heavy lifting, the housekeeping. Because of them there is little to nothing left after they leave.
Yard sales kinda function like nature. You set the time for 7am. That’s early enough. Too early. And at 6:30, the early buzzards birds start circling. They’re casing what you have to sell. These folks aren’t just browsing, they’re ready to make an offer. They might be shop owners, ebay sellers, they might sell furniture they paint or restore.
Early birds can give the yard sale host a shudder as she looks out the window to see them gather and then looks down at her freshly-poured cup of coffee. She is just getting started, but the birds are ready to buy! If we reframe our thinking, we might see that dealing with a yard sale early bird can go along way to make money and to get your yard sale done and over in a hurry.
Turning away buyers makes no sense! You’re there to sell. This is a one time event. Make the most of it. If they’re casing your sale early, they want to make a deal and move on to the next one. Just because you said 7:00 doesn’t mean you shouldn’t deal with the folks that roll in a little early. They might be from a consignment shop that’s buying up baby clothes. No hoping that someone who needs 3-6 months baby clothes might roll by, you’ve sold them!
If you sell your items, it’s money in your pocket. It’s out of your yard. And you don’t have to figure out what to do with the things that don’t sell at the end of the day.
So, consider the yard sale early buzzards birds. They’re the clean up crew for yard sales. They’re just showing up early to help you out!
We’d love to hear your opinion on early birds! Tell us why you love them or hate them. Or if you are one!
