Pin for the Win!
We’re going to assume that most everyone has heard of Pinterest. And it’s likely a good many of us have gotten sucked into the time loss vortex that happens when we go pinning.
Before you go yard sale hunting, Pinterest is a great place to begin your shopping list. So many ideas about repurposing, refinishing and upcycling.
But, it’s not only for shoppers! It’s also a great resource for hosting yard sales. Follow our Yard Sale Staging board here. It’s packed full of helpful ideas to make your yard sale a great one.
First Impressions Matter
Being organized and aesthetically pleasing is really important. First impressions are important. Do they stop and check you out? Or do they keep driving? You need curb appeal. In this article, we want to share a few tried and true suggestions to make your yard sale appealing at first glance.
In addition to making sure your yard looks neat and tidy, we suggest putting a few of your more interesting pieces out front. Things that will attract attention from the road.
Add balloons, streamers, seasonal decorations and signs. Shoppers shouldn’t think it’s a yard full of someone’s junk. They should see a bargain hunter’s paradise. A party! Nobody wants to leave the party early, and we want shoppers to stay and shop awhile too!
Fun, helpful, colorful signs are a must. Sidewalk chalk is a fun way to direct traffic. Colorful chalk messages and arrows on the sidewalk leading to your sale can entertain your shoppers and make them want to see what other fun things are on your lawn. You’re creating some excitement.
A sign that can be seen from the road pointing out items that are $0.25 and $0.50 is a good idea. Most people are interested in seeing what they can get for such a small investment.
Toys! Put some front and center as well. Those bins of $0.25 items are a great way to sell unwanted toys. They’ll also keep the young shoppers busy so that the parents, the folks with the wallets, can shop more!
If you have kids you’d like to keep busy, a lemonade stand or a hot chocolate stand is a good idea too. The kids get to be entrepreneurs and end the day with a little spending money.
As a final suggestion, your cashier’s table, complete with umbrella, should be set up close to the front of your sale. This way, you can greet people as they arrive, shoppers know where to find you when it’s negotiation time, and you can keep an eye on things.
When hosting a yard sale, consider your favorite stores and what gets you in the door. Creating that experience for your shoppers goes a long way. So, spend a little time making a good first impression and you’ll be handsomely rewarded.
